Thursday Quote

‎"Failure is important and nobody can reach That without failure. If you fail, if you have desires and problems, they will go away. Just go on, repeat your sadhana, they will disappear and God will give you the strength to overcome them... A teacher cannot give you anything. It is your mind, it is your prana, it is your soul. And it is your effort. Believe that. Nobody, no teacher can give you anything and no teacher has the power that you have. It is your confidence in yourself, your belief in yourself and your strength in yourself that can lift you up from this mundane world, from this vortex... Failure will make you a strong person. Don't worry about what others say; some will praise you, some will vilify you. Both are verbal delusion to a yogi."

Thursday Quote

"The Supreme Self can be realized only by sannyasins who are free from all blemishes and who are well versed in the true meaning of the Upanishads, and not by vain logicians whose minds are clouded by passion and who see truth only in their particular creeds or opinions."

-Adi Shankaracharya

Thursday Quote

"When I relinquish my body, my legacy won't be my stupid radio show, but my children. I sold off my possessions years ago.* Flesh is only a cage that holds our spirit. Mancow is an Andy Kaufmanesque creation. Mancow is ego and bluster, the Hulk to my Bruce Banner. The real me has successfully shed most ego and fear. When I shake this frame, as we all must, I hope to blossom like a lotus into pure spirit and Christ-consciousness."

-Erich "Mancow" Muller, quoted in this amazing new book.

*The money from the sold-off possessions was given to charity.

Mid-Week Video

Click here to see the exquisite film An American City at Christmastime, by the painter Franklin McMahon. Featuring the sights and sounds of a Chicago Christmas (including interviews and field recordings that McMahan made as a soundtrack), this 16mm masterpiece is like a love letter to a lost Chicago.

Monday Music

MS Subbulakshmi *and* and Pandit Jasraj

"Raghupati Ram" was Gandhi-ji's favorite hymn.

from the comments: From the 40th anniversary of Gandhi Ji's assassination. This appears to be Birla House, where while going for a similar prayer service Gandhi Ji was shot on 30th January 1948 at around 5:17 in the evening. (20:25)

MS Subbulakshmi had the rare honour of performing live for Gandhi Ji himself at such an evening prayer meeting, only a few months before he was killed.
