"...One who is not disgusted with things of the world, consisting of a diversity of means and ends, is not entitled to cultivate the knowledge of the unity of Brahman and the self, just as one who is not thirsty has no use for a drink."

Thursday Quote

"The Purusha, not larger than a thumb, the inner Self, always dwells in the hearts of men. Let a man separate him from his body with steadiness, as one separates the tender stalk from a blade of grass. Let him know that Self as the Bright, as the Immortal."

-Katha Upanishad 2.3.17

Belize 2013

What is the Belize retreat like?

Each day I would awaken just before sunrise, walk down the pier to the platform where we do yoga and watch the sun rise over the Caribbean.

As the sun rose, I'd see a family of crabs do their sideways walk, pincers opening and closing as they searched for their breakfast. Then I'd turn my attention back to the island's stunning sunrise. Afterwards, I'd meditate and then head to breakfast on the beach. Our two-hour classes took place at 9:30am and 4pm under a palapa surrounded by the turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea. The morning class was more active, and the evening class more quiet and reflective, and both included pranayama and meditation. We also did Yoga Nidra, Divine Purification and Psychic Development, chanted, and discussed yoga philosophy.

Between classes, we would convene at our special palapa overlooking the sea and linger over delicious, exquisitely-crafted, locally-sourced meals made according to the principles of ayurveda (incredibly fresh and satisfying to all of the six tastes). Between classes we would rest, get massages, have impromptu conversations on the Village Rooms porch, swim, ride bicycles, stroll the beautiful grounds, explore town, buy local crafts, visit Mayan ruins, and see rays, sea turtles, nurse sharks and more on snorkeling trips to the world's second-largest barrier reef. Thursday Quote

"Don't listen to anything that anyone ever tells you that has anything to do with negativity. The worst, sometimes, is what you tell yourself. Sometimes we are our own worst negative influence. That is just nothing but paralyzing—a waste of time and a waste of prana."

-C.O.
