This training is a wonderful way to deepen your yoga practice and learn to teach Level I-II Hatha Yoga classes that are deeply rooted in tradition, yet appeal to modern practitioners. More important, you will learn how to apply the precepts of yoga to your own life, and cultivate a state of deep inner peace.
Instruction will cover teaching, ethics, injury prevention, philosophy, postures, breathing, kriyas (cleansing practices), mantra (sacred sounds) and meditation as well as diet, anatomy and physiology and prenatal yoga. We will also explore teaching styles and verbal and physical adjustments as well as subtle anatomy (koshas, chakras, naadis and bandhas). The asana component will focus primarily on Hatha Yoga as taught by Sri Dharma Mittra, but will also include an overview of Ashtanga vinyasa yoga and its offshoots.
Students will learn how to incorporate the eight limbs of yoga into daily life. The goal is not to simply learn about yoga and how to teach it, but to become a yogi.
Our faculty also includes Sweet Pea's Studio owner Jennifer Barron Fishman (for prenatal yoga) and Carla Douros (ERYT-500), author of the upcoming book Anatomy of a Yogi (for yoga anatomy)
Class size is limited to 11 students. The cost is $3,000 ($2900 if you register before 8/1 and pay in full before 10/1). Additional costs include the textbooks required for the course as well as a mala, a neti pot and a prayer shawl; a list of books will be sent upon acceptance to the program. Payment plans may be arranged.
The training will take place Saturdays 11:30-6:30 from October 5, 2019 to March 28, 2020 at Sweet Pea's Studio, 3717 N. Ravenswood Ave. There will be two weeks off in February and December, but students will be expected to complete homework exercises during that time. We will meet on Oct. 5, 12, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Dec 7 & 14, Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1, 22, 29, March 7, 14, 21 & 28.
Upon completing the requirements, students will receive a certificate from Satya Yoga that may be submitted for membership in the Yoga Alliance. Participants must attend 80% of the in-class training to receive a certificate.
