Thursday Quote

"Meditate, but meditate in a way that’s productive: Going into a trance state where you don’t know who or where you are may leave you feeling some bliss, but will not help you to attain Self Knowledge. Study the yoga scriptures and bend the thoughts to always trying to discover the how and why of everything. Then you will indeed make rapid progress in yoga."

Thursday Quote

“All love is expansion, all selfishness is contraction. Love is therefore the only law of life. He who loves lives, he who is selfish is dying. Therefore love for love's sake, because it is the only law of life, just as you breathe to live.”

Thursday Quote

"That which brings supreme bliss and exaltation is right. That which elevates and brings you nearer to God, is right. That which brings you down and takes you away from God, is wrong. That which is done in strict accordance with the injunctions of the scriptures is right. That which is done against the injunctions of the scriptures is wrong. To work in accordance with divine will is right. To work in opposition to the divine will is wrong."

"Remember always to use your intelligence. If you are seeking enlightenment, you have to do your best to develop self-control. Otherwise, there will be no success in meditation [sustained concentration]. You become attached to all objects of the senses. The more you enjoy the sense objects, the bigger and 'fatter' they grow."

Thursday Quote

“An asana is a posture which acts on a specific pressure area, thereby releasing the built-up prana, energy, or vital force. In your physical body, the flow of energy takes place through your nerves; in the astral body, the flow of prana or life energy takes place in the nadis, or meridians. Many people think that you get your energy from eating proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals, but prana is the real force by which all living beings exist.

"Sometimes blockages develop in the nadis so that the prana accumulates and does not flow; in other areas there may be insufficient prana. Yogic exercises release this energy by applying pressure through placing the body in various positions, or asanas.”

Thursday Quote

"It is a great mistake to hold God responsible for your sufferings. You chose a path according to your own will and pleasure, and now enjoy the consequence of your choice. How can you blame God? For a moment’s pleasure you forgot everything else; you did not pause to consider right and wrong. If you put your hand into the fire it will naturally get burned. Is it the fault of the fire? No. You alone are responsible for it. Sri Ramakrishna used to say: 'A lamp is burning. Some may read Bhagavatam (Sacred Scriptures) by its light, while others may forge a document or do some other mischief. The lamp is not to blame for it.' The Lord has placed before man the two paths – good and evil. Choose as you please."

Thursday Quote

"After every happiness comes misery; they may be far apart or near. The more advanced the soul, the more quickly does one follow the other. What we want is neither happiness nor misery. Both make us forget our true nature; both are chains--one iron, one gold; behind both is the Atman, who knows neither happiness nor misery. These are states, and states must ever change; but the nature of the Atman is bliss, peace, unchanging. We have not to get it, we have it; only wash away the dross and see it."

Thursday Quote

“I believe all suffering is caused by ignorance. People inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their happiness or satisfaction. Yet true happiness comes from a sense of inner peace and contentment, which in turn must be achieved through the cultivation of altruism, of love and compassion and elimination of ignorance, selfishness and greed.”

-The Dalai Lama
