Swami Sivananda, in an indirect way, is a very special person in my Jnana Yoga background. Among some of the early visitors to his ashram, was a young Romanian scholar named Mircea Eliade. He studied with Sivananda for six months in the 1920s. Eliade became one of the most distinguished academic figures of the 20th century. Two of his publications are classics: ‘Yoga: Immortality and Freedom’ & ‘Patangali and Yoga’. Eliade’s intellectual influence on me is exceptional.
