A SUNDAY IN MYSORE
On Sunday K and I took a rickshaw to her friends' house near the Lalitha Mahal palace.
It's outside of town, where they're building a new extension, or neighborhood.
We were were inside talking when A came in and said that there was a rainbow around the sun. We went out and looked. Directly at the sun. With our bare eyes. Sure enough, the rainbow was there. So we tried to capture it with our cameras.
Then we went onto the roof, where you can see Chamundi Hill.
You could also see many other houses.
And whatnot.
The fence-posts are made of granite.
The wiring jobs are also interesting (funny - we had no electricity, or "load shedding," for almost the entire day)
K's friends were in the process of adding a second floor.
One fellow was hammering the steel rods.
Two other gentlemen were sticking them into frames.
Upstairs, a crew of three - two men and one woman - were mixing cement by hand and carrying it in trays up to the roof, where it was smoothed out by a man with a trowel. The woman was wearing bangles and a sari.
Meanwhile the baby slept in a sling in the finished part of the house.
I start crying when I see your pictures. The laundry in the wind and the hammering man are my favourites.

I love that sling! It is like the baby is a little caterpillar .
ReplyDeleteSee you soon!

Ursula,
ReplyDeleteI already miss it too, even though I'm just in Bangalore. I hope to see you next week!
Munkin,
The other good news about the sling:
-it is dark inside, so the baby sleeps
-the baby cannot escape
-when the baby wakes up, you swing the sling and she goes back to sleep.
